For the Japan HR team. Everything in Professional for up to ten people, plus what a senior hire actually costs.
Who it is for
Japan HR leadership teams, regional reward, talent-acquisition and D&I teams who cover Japan, and anyone who has to budget a senior hire in Japan before the role is open.
What people use it for
- One set of numbers for the whole team.HR business partners, reward and talent acquisition work from the same benchmarks, instead of each exporting their own and arguing about whose is right.
- Budget a senior hire before you open the role.Makana Partners' pay ranges give total annual cash, 25th to 75th percentile, for HR and other senior roles in Japan. A Head of HR at director level is paid a median ¥15 million, with the middle half between ¥13 and ¥20 million.
- Report Japan to headquarters or the board.Your Japan entity against listed peers and against other foreign subsidiaries, by industry and size, in a form that drops straight into a board paper.
- Set targets that hold up.Percentiles show what the top quarter of your industry division already achieves, so a target for women in management or fathers' leave rests on what peers have done, not on a round number.
What is inside
- Everything in Professional: 3,789 listed companies, about 36,000 unlisted employers, benchmarks, foreign-subsidiary flags, the dashboard, Excel and CSV, and the report.
- Makana Partners' pay ranges: total annual cash (base plus bonus) for Japan-based professionals in our executive search network, recorded 2024–2026. Every published cell has at least 20 people behind it; quartiles are rounded to ¥0.5 million, so no individual can be identified.
- Up to ten users in your organisation.
Read the pay ranges for what they are. They are deepest in HR, with ranges by role and level. Marketing, sales, technology, finance and general management have one to three cells each: a reference point, not a survey. They are total cash; most budgets are set in base salary, which at these levels is often about a fifth lower. The API is part of Enterprise.
