The immigration services bureau handles residence status: work visas, renewals and changes. Which one you deal with depends on where the workplace is.
What employers file there
- Certificates of Eligibility (在留資格認定証明書) for hires coming from abroad
- Changes and extensions of status of residence, including online applications
- Employees must notify immigration within 14 days of changing employer; employers of some statuses are asked to notify too
- Applications can be filed by the employer's staff or an authorised agent such as a lawyer or gyoseishoshi
